Welcome! From a young age, I found a sense of purpose in helping others by listening to their stories, and I realized that a career in counseling was where I needed to be. My primary goal as a therapist has been to provide an environment where my clients feel safe to work through life’s challenges without fear of judgement. It’s difficult to ask for help, to put your trust in another person, and allow yourself to be vulnerable. Using a person-centered, strengths-based approach, I strive to provide a space where client’s feel well supported as they navigate their treatment journey.
I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and my Master of Science Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Minnesota State University-Mankato. Since beginning my journey in the mental health field over 15 years ago, I have gained experience in crime victim services, play therapy, chemical dependency counseling, children’s mental health, disordered eating, nutritional counseling, and pre and post bariatric surgery counseling. I am trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Family Based Treatment (FBT). Seven years of my career was spent specializing in the treatment of eating disorders and co-occurring conditions.
I integrate various therapeutic modalities into my practice based on client need but am partial to Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have always been fascinated by the power of thought and the consequences when unhelpful cognitions go unchecked. Through this process, client’s are able to explore connections between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, learn how to disrupt unhelpful patterns, and change negative scripts about themselves and the world around them. I primarily work with adolescents and adults treating a range of mental health concerns including anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders, PTSD, body image disturbance, communication challenges, and adjustment issues. I provide individual and couples/conjoint counseling sessions in person or via telehealth.
Outside of my professional aspirations, I enjoy spending time outdoors through the seasons with my husband and two sons playing baseball, fishing, hunting, beach combing, skateboarding, hiking the trails behind our home, agate picking, producing our own maple syrup, or sitting on the porch swing and getting lost in a good book. When I’m feeling especially motivated, I’ll listen to some rock music and take my Blue Heeler (Ivan) for a run.
